Method
- Cook the Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve about 1/2 cup of pasta cooking water, then drain the spaghetti.
- Sauté the Garlic: While the spaghetti is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sliced garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook, stirring frequently, for about 3-4 minutes or until the garlic is golden brown. Be careful not to burn the garlic as it can become bitter.
- Combine Spaghetti and Garlic Oil: Add the cooked and drained spaghetti to the skillet with the garlic oil. Toss to coat the spaghetti evenly with the oil and garlic. If the pasta seems dry, add a splash of the reserved pasta cooking water to create a silky sauce.
- Season and Garnish: Season the dish with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. You can also add some grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh parsley, and a sprinkle of lemon zest for extra flavor.
- Serve: Divide the spaghetti aglio e olio among plates and serve immediately. You can top it with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs if desired.
- This recipe is a classic Italian dish that's quick, easy, and full of flavor. You can customize it by adding your favorite ingredients like sautéed shrimp, cherry tomatoes, or spinach. Remember, the key to a great recipe is using fresh and high-quality ingredients and adjusting flavors to suit your taste. Enjoy your meal!
